What Makes a Great Professional Headshot (and How to Prepare)

Bright white kitchen with a large island and bar seating

Your headshot shows up before you do: on LinkedIn, your email signature, the team page, the brokerage profile, the yard sign. In a digital-first market it's not vanity, it's the handshake that happens a thousand times without you.

What separates a great one from a decent one

Three things, in order: expression, light, and consistency. Expression is coached, not lucky, we direct posture and micro-expression in real time, with on-site image review so you leave knowing you got one you love. Light is professional strobes and a controlled backdrop (we bring a portable mini-studio to your office). And consistency matters most for teams: matched lighting, background, and crop so the whole roster looks like one organization, with new hires matched exactly later.

What to wear

Solid colors photograph best. Fine stripes and tight checks can shimmer on camera, so skip them. Bring a second outfit if you want variety, a full outfit change is +$25, while small tweaks like removing a blazer or swapping glasses are always free. Glasses themselves are no problem; glare is a lighting job, and that's ours.

What retouching should (and shouldn't) do

Natural retouching removes the temporary: stray hairs, blemishes, glasses glare, small distractions, while keeping real skin texture. The goal is you on your best day, never the plastic look. Extra retouched images are $20 each, background color changes are $10 per image, and adding your logo to delivered files is always free.

What it costs

Individual sessions are $200 (about an hour, up to 3 retouched images). Small groups of 2 to 5 are $135 per person. Corporate teams of 6+ are a $125 one-time on-site setup plus $100 per person, at roughly 5 to 7 minutes each, so a whole office photographs in an afternoon. Realtor tip: agents on a Preferred Partner team get headshot perks, including a free headshot for every new agent.
